• Wilson faces challenge in primary

    Republican Second District Congressman Joe Wilson has one challenger in the June 10th primary.

    Wilson has held the seat since 2001 and is facing his first primary challenge.

    The 60-year-old lawyer serves on the Armed Services, Education and Labor and Foreign Relations committees in Congress. Wilson says his top issues include strengthening national security and the economy. Wilson says he also wants to work for energy independence and to improve health care by promoting health savings accounts.

    Wilson faces Barnwell native Phil Black. The 63-year-old Black owns a hardware store and is and retired after 26 years with the U.S. Small Business Administration. Black says he’s most concerned about fuel costs.
