• $1.6 Trillion Debt

by Joe Wilson on August 25, 2009

    Friends -

I’ve been spending the August recess traveling the state and meeting with folks at town halls, in restaurants, and outside neighborhood stores. Everywhere I go, I hear the same thing – Americans cannot believe the path President Obama is taking our nation.

Despite the public outcry against runaway spending, auto company takeovers, and nationalized health care, President Obama’s allies are working around the clock, fighting back against the will of America’s taxpayers. While President Obama is on vacation this week, his liberal allies with “Organizing for America” are hard at work in South Carolina.

The President’s allies are dumping millions of dollars into television ads, email campaigns, and grassroots workers. He has already hired staff here in South Carolina, and those operatives are flooding our office with calls and bringing protesters out to our town halls. Democrats are targeting different congressmen across the nation who have stood up to the President’s liberal health care agenda.

Nevertheless, I have continued to stand up for the hardworking families of South Carolina and for greater accountability in Washington. For instance, during debate on the Democrat bill in Congress, I personally had an amendment inserted into the health care plan that encourages any Member of Congress who votes for the public option to use that government plan. This would help hold Congress and the White House accountable to the American people.

Through it all, I’ve fought the Democrats’ irresponsible spending sprees for one reason – today’s news.

Just today we learned that under the leadership of President Obama and Nancy Pelosi, our government has more than tripled the national debt from $459 Billion to $1.6 TRILLION! Click here to read the Washington Post story.

Friends, we cannot run our nation this way. We cannot be the world’s most vibrant economy and put families back to work when foreign nations like China own $1.6 Trillion of our debt. We cannot successfully reform health care by adding $1 trillion more in big government programs.

That’s why I’m turning to you today. I’m fighting the President’s irresponsible spending even while his paid workers are targeting us around the district. I need your help so that we don’t turn our district over to one of the President’s liberal allies.

Will you help me fight in Washington to pay down this $1.6 Trillion deficit by donating $16 to my campaign today? Just a small donation of $16 from hundreds of folks around the district will really add up, and it will help me fund a strong campaign to fight back President Obama’s organization and his recruited candidate.

Please consider donating $16 today. When you do, you’ll make your voice heard and let President Obama know that a $1.6 Trillion deficit is completely irresponsible.

    1. Sir
I’m not from your state but want to forward support. There are not many ways to say “Liar” in a nice way, especially when it desperately needs to be said. I am ex-military and agree that higher ranks HAVE to be respected but NOT necessarily the person holding the rank. Thats just a bonus if you can. I’m from the school that respect has to be earned and doesn’t just go along with the title or position where ever it may be.

It sounds to me like you have been hearing what your folks are saying and passing that along the way it should be done. Pity more don’t or won’t do the same out of fear that they will make someone mad and/or not get re-elected. My congratulations (admittedly for what small worth it may be) for sending your peoples message the way I’m pretty sure you got it. We will need a lot more folks like you if we are going to get out of this mess and unfortunately I don’t have a great deal of confidence that we do.

I wish you the best of luck and wish we had some folks like you in the state of New York.

Thank you for your efforts in support of our country.

All the best and take care.

      Al

Thank you for speaking up when no one else has. I am concerned your website crash is from liberals and/or dems trying to quiet you. I’m not a resident of SC, but here in St. Louis, MO many are scared as well. Anyway, thanks again.

I hear people complain all the time that the folks elected to represent them usually don’t .I had never heard of Congressman Wilson until last night. While you may not believe this was the most appropriate venue in which to voice his opinion, I completely understand the level of frustration that led him to do so.
Very seldom these days does a public official stick his neck out and call a spade a spade.
Congressman Wilson had just returned to Washington after hearing his constituents views at town hall meetings across South Carolina. See link below.
It seems clear that he is at least trying to convey the wishes of the people he represents and millions more across the nation.
We can no longer afford to just to sit back and complain. We can’t afford to just gripe and moan to each other. If that’s all we do we deserve what we get from our government at all levels. If we don’t support the people that attempt to take up for us we cannot hope to stem the tide of all the change that is being forced down our throats.
I cannot think of a way you could make a more immediate or profound impact than to visit Congressman Wilson’s web site and possibly make a small contribution or at least pen a short note of support. If you don’t feel he is deserving of your support pick someone that you feel is and support them.
      Thanks for the soapbox time

THANKS Congressman for your comments during the President’s speech on Wednesday.

BTW, your comment above “Just today we learned that under the leadership of President Obama and Nancy Pelosi, our government has more than tripled the national debt from $459 Billion to $1.6 TRILLION! Click here to read the Washington Post story.” is in error. Those figures are for the federal budget DEFICIT, NOT the national DEBT.

The national DEBT is in exces of $11.7 Trillion. see http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

For my historical analysis of the national debt, see “Maybe They Haven’t Heard There’s A Recession” at http://kerrythomas.com/Archives/DebtBoil.htm

      Dear Congressman Wilson:
Thank you for calling things the way you see them! I can only imagine your frustration having to sit through Mr. Obama’s speech filled with
out-right lies, mis-truths, half-truths and mis-representations. The speech was presented to mislead the American people as to the content and intent of the current socialized medicine legislation under consideration. Thank you for voicing the truth.
