Over the past few weeks, U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson has held several town hall meetings about heathcare reform. Now, he’s on his annual bus tour, making several stops in Beaufort and Jasper Counties.

On his annual bus tour, Congressman Joe Wilson made a stop at the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce, talking with residents and members of the business community.

Many came hoping to get more information and make their voices heard.

“I did want to express some of my concerns about the health care proposals on the table,” said Jerry Schultz. “I do believe we definitely need some healthcare reform because the system is broken in many respects.”

Larry Meisner runs the Beaufort Office of Kimley-Horn and Associates and was eager to express his opinion today.

“Healthcare is something I feel is very important,” said Meisner. “I think we definitely need a change from what we have now. The system is broken.”

Meisner says heath insurance is a major cost to the company.

“There’s a tremendous amount of heath insurance costs that’s paid for by businesses,” said Meisner. “I think it’s a burden on businesses. The cost just keep going up and again we need to find a way to contain the cost but provide health insurance for everyone.”

During his visit, the Congressman faulted the Obama Administration’s reform plan, calling it “big government at it’s worst” and shared information about competing healthcare legislation on the table.

“Bill H3400, it provides for a number of initiatives such as buying insurance across the state lines, association health plans, providing affordability for pre-existing conditions,” said Congressman Wilson. “We need to address certain issues, not totally rework or overhaul and take over the heath care system in our country.”

While there are a lot of differing opinions on the healthcare and healthcare reform-most in attendance, agree something has to be done and soon.

Congressman Wilson will be wrapping up his bus tour on Friday.

    2. Sean Tracey says:

      Thank you!
Thank you for saying what I have been saying for over a year. It is not just the issue you reacted to, it is every thing he says and does.

Thank you also, for not being “Politically Correct”. America needs to take a stand, or it is going to end up in a worse way.

I know this hurt your career because the media is bought and paid for, but at least feel good as an American, for using your first amendment right!

    3. Gloria Kaiser says:

      Dear, dear Congressman Joe Wilson:
You are my hero! You are such a brave man to be the only voice in chambers yesterday to speak the truth. I thank you for speaking for the tens of millions of Americans who agree with you and will do whatever it takes to get you re-elected. You will not be fighting alone, sir.
May God bless you and your family,
      Gloria Kaiser

    5. Wayne Garrett says:

I support Joe Wilson on his speaking out for the people. So much was left unsaid last night in the presidental address. Let us not forget the speech that President Bush made and where he was booed by the house in 2005. Keep standing up.
      Wayne

    6. I love Joe Wilson. I wish more Republicans had the nerve to do what you did. I need your address to send you a donation to your campaign. Thank you, thank, thank you.

    7. DOUG says:

Thank you Joe for calling it like it was when the President was caught in a lie. From California, Thank you Joe for speaking the truth! God Bless

    8. Richard says:

calling him a lier doesn’t bother me. We need more honesty in Washington. We need more people to stand up for what it right. You and Sarah are a good start. I think the reform has to start in GOVERNMENT. I have not liked the way you do business in Washington. Best wishes from South Dakota. RA

    10. Karen Tarleton says:

      Go Joe.

    11. Randy Smith says:

How can Mr. Wilson, a retired military man, like myself, have little or no self restraint for the office of the President of The United States of America and Our Country. I am terribly disappointed with his outburst, ashmed that this man expected to receive my salute as an officer, and represents my state. His apology was demanded by his superiors in the Republican (as he stated), not for the disgust he displayed as an elected official, retired military officer, and American!
I was not a fan of President Bush, but this man was Our President and I met with disgust anyone that would dishonor him as Our President!
Mr. Wilson, the Office of President of The United States is MUCH BIGGER than your inappropriate actions warranted!

    12. David Edwards says:

Telling Pres. Obama that he “lies” to his face was the right thing to do.
      Congratulations.
Apologizing for telling the truth was not the right thing to do.
      Shame on you.
The Obama health plan is a rip-off and will hurt the USA.
Please keep the courage to stick with what is right to do.
      Dave

    13. Marianne Rinke says:

      Dear Congressman Wilson:

Although it was not proper decorum, I want to salute you for telling the truth during President Obama’s speach on health care on Wednesday, September 9th. It was great to see that someone actually had enough courage to speak out. I, and many others, agree with you 100%. I wish you the best in your reelection efforts.
      God Bless You.

    14. Kimberly Yaman says:

Greetings from a neighbor to the north (North Carolina).

Representative Wilson avails himself of two forms of government-run health care: his benefits as a U.S. Congress member and his benefits as a U.S. military service veteran. I understand that several of his family members also benefit from government-run health care.

I’d like to know whether Rep. Wilson has given up his government-run health-care benefits in light of his recent change of heart about whether the government is capable of providing quality health care to people who deserve it.

      Most sincerely,
      Kim Yaman

      Terri Lutz

    17. Denise Dobbs says:

Thank you for speaking up for us!

    18. NotDuey says:

Mr. Dailey writes that the Congressman faulted the Obama Administration’s reform plan, calling it “big government at it’s worst” . Here’s an idea: Wilson can make it smaller by resigning.

    19. L. H. Hay says:

Just want you to know that my wife and I support you and what you said. Finally someone said out loud what we have all been saying. Keep it up Joe!!! We will be sending a check today.

    20. Raymond Michael says:

Mr. Wilson sir,you are a great and wonderful American citizen. Obama is a marxist, socialist, commie pig.We need more Congrss men like you to fight for our liberty”s and freedom of speech and choice. Please, please help us.

    21. Trish Kelly says:

Joe, Please come to Wisconsin and run for the Senate or House. The guys in my district and puppets for Obama. They don’t listen. Man, if there were something I could do so more of our leaders would tell the truth like you, I’d be there.

Don’t take anything to heart. I think what you said was GREAT and DON’T APOLOGIZE AGAIN. Enough is enough. It’s Obama who should be apologizing. He is arrogant and acts like the king, not an elected President.

      Thanks again, Joe.

    22. Ralph bailey says:

Just a note to support you for telling it as it is. So tired of lawmakers not speaking the truth.
      Ralph Bailey
      Pardeeville Wi.

Ps Will be donateing to you campain fund

    23. Bethann Kistner says:

It boggles my mind how you were rewarded for bad behavior. It is okay to disagree, although, John McCann said Presidsent Obama was telling the truth. And, John McCann is well respected and a republican who doesn’t agree with everything in the plan. You should be removed from congress if you do not know how to act professionally and respectfully. The whole world was watching and you were a disgrace to our Country and an embarrassment to the republication party. Your comment that you were told to apologize shows just how ignorant you really are and certainly don’t belong in congress. You did your State no favor – I can only hope they are smart enough not to elect you again. And, I think you should have been sanctioned by Congress – you got lucky!

    24. David Seila says:

      Senator Joe,

Please, hold Obama to your comment! If the President is a Liar, then prove hime to be one. Mr. President probably is one, and will show it in the future in his policies and agenda’s. I am actually glad that you called him out, because if he proves to be one, then you were right. Everyone will have been warned first, because of your remark!

      Very Respectfully,

      David Seila

    25. Evelyn.Leberis says:

I hope Congressman Wilson will not apologize again for stating what most of us know is true. It seems ironic to me and many of my colleagues,
at at the reaction of the left wing who constantly harrassed Pres. Bush
called him an” idiot ” among hundreds of other deragotory epithets.
Why is it Nancy Pelosi never apologized to the CIA, those who risk their
lives daily to protect America and it’s citizens??
I could go on and on!
      Thank you sir,
      for standing for Truth, Evelyn

‘ , among hundreds of other deragatory epithets

    26. Joe,
As the representative of your people, why are you being attacked when you are only representing your citizens who voted for you and informing them as to what is really going on? and informing citizens from other states as well. I do not agree with the Health Care Reform Bill and I am very disappointed that as an American citizen that we cannot see all the bill proposals, and amendments that are going on behind closed doors. As a Government worker myself, I was very disappointed to hear the President say that the “Stimulous package” was not read and then it was signed. How embarrassing for all of us Government employees. I believe Congress and the President forgot their oath that they took. As I watched the news today, it is evident that the American citizens are outraged by being lied to by our President and upset with all the spending Congress has been allowed to do. Thank you for speaking out to the nation as to the truth. I cannot believe more did not speak up besides you. May God always watch over and protect you from your enemies and give you the wisdom you need in making the right decisions and choices for the American citizens.

      Hello COngressman Wilson,

I am a Georgia girl who loves to visit South Carolina frequently. Greenville is only about an hour and forty minutes from our beautiful North Georgia Mountains. I couldn’t have agreed with you more when you yelled “You lie!!”, at the President. While I do think it may have been slightly out of line at the time, I do agree that unfortunately, our President IS indeed a liar. His track record thus far proves it. No transparency, billions in pork-barrel spending, etc; Now we come upon Nationalized Health Care….I yell “You lie” at the TV every night…it drives my husband nuts!!! Anyway, we would love to invite you to some great Georgia BBQ, and a few bbers with your friendly neighbors to the South!!! GO JOE!!!!!!

    29. Larry Dunnington says:

Give them hell Joe, You lye is what thousands of people wont to tell Bush and Obama, we will do it throe donations to your campaign for congress. Sure they wont to get rid of the people on social security, then they won’t have to explain where all that money they stole went to. The people need you and Ron Paul and the men like you that are afread to speak up. Thank You and God Bless and protect you.
