Let’s look ahead and work together for real health insurance reform
by Joe Wilson on September 22, 2009Joe heads home to thank the people of South Carolina for their support and to urge all Americans to move forward with civility in the health care debate during his press conference at Lexington Medical Center.
“The people of South Carolina know me,” Joe says.
He continues, “the White House said ‘lets have a civil discussion on the issues before us’ and indeed that’s what I’d like to continue. I was very pleased that part of that dicussion was citizenship verification. We now know that last Friday that was adopted by the US Senate and its been adopted in a release from the White House that citizenship verification will be included in the President’s version.”

My name is Don Lovell. I retired from General Motors in 1998, with over 30 years of service. I believed that I was set for life. Then came Obama. Now, the Obama administration has forced General Motors into bankruptcy. Obama, and the Secretary of the Treasury, have seen it fit to ignore General Motors’ contractual obligations to a selected few of their retirees. They have decided to cut the health benefits to over 50,000, selected by them, General Motors retirees. So, as a decorated Vietnam Combat Veteran, I said, “well, I will just get my health benefits through the VA”. So wrong!!! It turns out that I could have entered the VA system anytime between 1971, when I was discharged, and 2003 when the law was changed, with no problem. However, because I believed that General Motors would always honor their contracts, and that I would have health benefits trough General Motors until I reached the age of 65 and Medicare would kick in, I did not apply for VA benefits. Now, even though I am a decorated Vietnam Combat Veteran, I, as yet, have not been able to qualify for VA health benefits. Now we have learned that Reynolds and Reynolds has jumped on the “Lets take away our loyal retirees benefits and save money so we can give ourselves a bonus” bandwagon! The Obama administration is saying that “Those who have health insurance now, have no fear of losing it”. I have health insurance now through GM, however, I have been notified that I will lose my contractual health insurance benefits as of 12-30-2009. This is an injustice!
I hope that you will stand your ground and expose Obama’s lies.
Yours Truly,
Donald A. Lovell
