• We Need Real Health Care Reform

by Joe Wilson on October 16, 2009

Earlier this week, the Senate Finance Committee approved the health care bill proposed by Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.). Without a doubt, this bill will increase government spending and increase taxes for Americans.

We need more people to voice their opposition to the Democratic leadership. Will you help us get this message out by asking five of your friends to sign up today?

It is true that our current health care system is costly and difficult to navigate, but we need real solutions. While the intention of health care reform is to lower the cost of health insurance, this bill could actually increase the cost. It also includes $507 billion in new taxes and fees that will hurt average Americans across the country.

In this economy, implementing a bill that will increase the tax burden on individuals as well as small businesses is not acceptable.

There is something fundamentally wrong when a small-business owner faces bankruptcy or lay-offs because of some obscure Washington healthcare mandate. We don’t need a government-centered health care plan in America – we need a patient-centered health care plan in America.

I remain committed to supporting reforms that increase access to those who cannot get coverage under current plans. I also support protecting the rights of individuals and families to keep their coverage and choose their own doctors.

The health care bill I would like to see would:

    • Protect Medicare for the millions of seniors that rely on this important program
    • Provide access to care for pre-existing conditions
    • Allow for competition, and let you buy a personalized insurance plan across state lines that works for you, not Washington
    • Encourage employers to offer discounts for employees with healthy habits
    • Work to eliminate frivolous lawsuits that ultimately drive up the cost of healthcare
    • Offer citizens tax dollars back through credits and deductions so they can purchase an affordable plan that works for them

I strongly support real health care reform, but the Baucus bill will hurt Americans more than help them.

We don’t need fast, radical reform in Washington – we need reasonable, responsible reform that protects our seniors and helps make health care more affordable for all Americans.

This message must get out. Ask five friends to sign up today and help us fight this misguided health care bill.
    Sincerely,

    Joe Wilson

Please review the FACTS in the Energy & Commerce Committee summary: The Affordable Health Care for America Act will make health care affordable for the middle class, provide security for seniors, and guarantee access to health insurance coverage for the uninsured — while responsibly reducing the federal deficit over the next decade and beyond. This analysis examines the benefits of the legislation in the 2nd Congressional District of South Carolina. Congressman Joe Wilson represents the district.
In Congressman Wilson’s district, the Affordable Health Care for America Act will:
      • Improve employer-based coverage for 484,000 residents.
      • Provide credits to help pay for coverage for up to 186,000 households.
      • Improve Medicare for 114,000 beneficiaries, including closing the prescription drug donut hole for 8,300 seniors.
      • Allow 18,900 small businesses to obtain affordable health care coverage and provide tax credits to help reduce health insurance costs for up to 16,900 small businesses.
      • Provide coverage for 76,000 uninsured residents.
      • Protect up to 800 families from bankruptcy due to unaffordable health care costs…..

    3. Dear Congressman Wilson,
I applaud the health care solutions that you favor and believe the H.R. 3962 legislation that was just passed in the House will have dire consequences. That bill is flawed from the 1st page to the last.

It will effect thousands of doctors and medical facilities as well as having adverse effect on millions of patients; especially the edlerly. I believe they will be treated like dirt.

There are so many ramifications to this bill that I will not list them all here. But some day Speaker Pelosi and Pres. Obama will know the wrath of the American voters.

Please let’s take up the fight in the Senate and hope that they can finally KILL the BILL!

    4. chad Rubin MD, FACS says:

If you really support the above then why did you vote, this week, for a 21.2% cut for doctors providing Medicare to seniors effective January 1, 2010?

    5. This bill along with Cap and Trade will be the end of America as we know it. Please do all you can to stop both bills and try to keep O from signing away our sovereignty at Copenhagen climate summit.

Thank you Joe for standing up for FREE Americans,
      Chuck

I agree with the measures you state for a common sense healthcare bill with the exception of “Encourage employers to offer discounts for employees with healthy habits”. Who exactly will determin what the ‘healthy habits’ are? Will it be smoking, or drinking or taking psychotropics? And why is my employer’s business what I eat or how I maintain my life or anything other than the job I do that I was hired for? This statement is perilously close to exactly what the current healthcare bill is trying to do now.

Joe I do not see any other way out of theis mess, other then , impeaching the president and some of the democarateic menebers that endorsed him and helped him get where he is today. He is not an American born, the Kenyan Ambassador Ogego says Obama’s Kenyan birthplace. He has not don anything for this country pushed us further in debt. fake jobs and false promises.

    8. marilyn clark lee says:

Joe, thank God we have you! You are not my state representative, but I look to you to educate the democrats on what the American people want, and it is not health care reform. We want a stable economy, jobs and for the government to stop spending our hard earned money. Why is my family cutting costs where ever possible, but the big federal government just keeps growing and spending?
Why is it not obvious to everyone else that the union’s are behind Obama and have been from the beginning? They would love to control the 6th largest industry in the country. What can we do? The next election will be hell to pay for anyone who supported this outrageous, and unnecessary reform. They, the democrats, seem determined to shove this down the throats of the American people no matter what. Where is the integrity of our politicians, where is their back bone? I’m so frustrated and disappointed in our government. Thank you for all you do and continue to do.

    9. Raymond says:

I wonder why there isn’t more public outcry over the double standard used by Members of Congress when it comes to their health care program versus the one they’re putting together for the rest of us peons? If we could hold their feet to the fire of TRUTH, we’d all be amazed at how quickly the problem would be solved. I’ve got an idea – implement a bill that would require all Members of Congress, and the entire Executive Branch of Government (yes, including POTUS) to adopt the same health care plan they are crafting for us – with no exceptions. Problem solved – end of story. Too simple. Why?
