• Rep. Joe Wilson Demands Audit of Stimulus Funds

by Joe Wilson on November 24, 2009

U.S. Representative Joe Wilson (R-2nd District) is questioning a government website that tracks how federal stimulus funds are being spent, saying the website has reported significant errors.

Wilson is calling for an audit.

“The actual official website of the government reported billions of dollars being spent in nonexistent congressional districts, very likely of nonexistent jobs,”says Wilson.

Wilson expressed concerns about how the federal government is keeping track of job growth from the stimulus program. “In South Carolina, there were a number of jobs created in districts that do not exist–Congressional districts,”says Wilson.

Wilson says last week, www.recovery.gov, the government website, had reported incorrect information. He says the site showed South Carolina had 10 congressional districts, when in fact there are only six. Wilson says the website also reported those phantom districts spent $40 million to create 155 jobs. “We really need to know where the money’s being spent,”said Wilson.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing last week to address mistakes on the website. Meanwhile, Wilson has called for an audit. “The spending bill itself provides for an independent panel to be appointed to account for how the money’s being spent,”says Wilson.

News19 checked out the website information, and he says it appears to have been corrected. However, Wilson says he’s still concerned about the numbers.

    1. Peter B. stone says:

      Dear Joe,
Stand by the corage of your convictions…so few do today. Continue “popping the hood” on Obama’s administration and connections. it’s the only way we can expose them to the public who doesn’t know. Once they know …they’ll vote them out! As Thmas Jefferson said, ” A government big enough to give you everything, will saomeday be big enough to take it all from you.”
      Keep the good work.
