Stand With Us and Demand an Audit of Stimulus Funds
by Joe Wilson on November 29, 2009How many jobs has President Obama’s stimulus package created?
No one knows. And that’s a major problem.
The Obama Administration recently launched a website at www.recovery.gov to track stimulus spending, fraud, and abuse, but unfortunately the website seems to be its very own worst offender. It reports millions of dollars spent to create jobs in congressional districts that do not exist.
Yes. Fake jobs in fake districts.
In South Carolina alone, the website reports spending $40 million to create 155 jobs in our 16th, 43rd, 45th 32nd, and 12th districts. The problem is South Carolina only has 6 congressional districts.
Somehow, $1.8 million was even spent for 1.4 jobs in district 00 and $3 million couldn’t even produce a single job in South Carolina’s 43rd imaginary Congressional District.
This would all be funny if we weren’t talking about the biggest expansion of government in decades and real jobs for American families who need to get back on their feet. American taxpayers deserve to know where their hard-earned dollars are being spent.
After several days of reports of stimulus inconsistencies, the Administration still hasn’t explained where the money is really being spent.
That’s why I’ve asked the President to establish a panel to audit stimulus spending and to report back on how the Administration can prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.
On Monday morning I will hold a press conference where I will present the names of American taxpayers who stand with me in this fight.
Will you demand an audit of stimulus funds?
If so, please click here today and I’ll add your name to the list of American’s demanding answers and I’ll present it at Monday’s press conference.
We can’t let this kind of abuse with our tax dollars keep happening.
Please click here to add your name to the list of Americans demanding answers now.
Sincerely,
Joe Wilson
US Representative
It’s time to demand answers to this question but it’s also time to put more pressure on your fellow Congressmen to vote NO on the health care bill if it comes out of a conference committee. Please do all you can to stop this hemorrhage of taxpayer money to make us subservient to the government. The government needs to be subservient to US – THE AMERICAN CITIZENS.
I am deeply concerned and outraged with Obama, this administration and those in Congress who continue to fail the American people. I applore you and your conservative members of Congress to also begin an investigative probe into corrupt organziations like ACORN that continue to receive federal dollars behind closed doors.
I will continue to stand and fight for accountability, justice and truth. Joe, I support an INDEPENDENT audit of the stimulus fund. Don’t we have independent auditors already in our goverment?
I signed the “demand an answer” letter but cannot see a “submit” button to send it.
Joe-
Only a fraction of the stimulus funds have been spent, with little effect.
Why not freeze the expenditure of the remaining “unspent” stimulus funds.
Just because Congress approved it, doesnt mean we have to spend it, especially when the stimulus that has been spent has had little effect on creating jobs.
Freezing Stimulus spending would at least stop the Federal Deficit from ballooning.
It’s taxpayer money and each dollar must be accounted for and disclosed to the public. Which means a detailed audit by an independent private accounting firm. Preferably one that didn’t support/donate to the Obama juggernaut.
Thanks for the push for accountability. I think your information is out of date, http://www.recovery.gov has been updated (good job!) and now shows a breakdown by district (correct districts!!), including details by expenditure. Will GAO do an annual audit?
