• Orangeburg & Chapin: Joe Means Jobs Tour

by Team Wilson on February 17, 2010

Wednesday afternoon has been a busy one for Joe, as he’s already criss-crossed much of the Second District.  The day began at 8am with a tour at Cox Industries in Orangeburg.  The Congressman spoke with workers and took questions at the facility which produces a variety of wood products.

Then it was up to Ellett Brothers in Chapin for a 10am meeting with workers at the hunting and outdoor distribution center.  Company President and CEO Hewitt Grant told Rep. Wilson, “We look at our company as a family.”

Asked about the stimulus bill, Joe expressed frustration, saying more than 3 million jobs have been lost since the bill was signed. Prompting Joe to wonder, “Where’s the jobs?”

What’s worse, Wilson says stimulus money has been wasted, saddling a future generation with a $9,800 per person debt.  Joe has asked for a strict accounting of your tax dollars, including sponsoring a bill aimed at auditing stimulus funds. Wilson said a cut in capital gains taxes and allowing businesses to have better write offs for deprecation of assets are two sure fire ways to stimulate the economy and get folks back to work.
