Plastic Recycling in Allendale County
by Team Wilson on February 18, 2010Did you know that Fairfax in Allendale County could be the site of an innovative project to recycle plastic products that otherwise would have gone to a landfill? Wherever possible Joe wants to see new green-technologies result in good paying jobs in South Carolina, which is why Joe was excited to tour the start-up, Climax Global Energy facility.
Company Vice President Tom Pinto told Joe that an astounding 90% of plastic is not recycled and ends up stuck in landfills. In South Carolina, company officials estimate around 30,000 tons of plastics end up in landfills each month.
Climax Global Energy is developing a process to take shredded plastics and melt them down and refine them into waxes and lubricants. The father and son team of Simon and Viktor Charivker are working in developing this patented technology.
Joe is a co-sponsor of legislation that gives tax credits to companies for the production and recycling of plastics. He looks forward to be at any groundbreaking when the company is expected to expand the operation as early as this year.
