• True Bipartisan Meeting or Dog & Pony Show?

Bipartisanship or a show? Those are the two options the Obama Administration has for the so-called “bipartisan health care summit” on Thursday. Just select GOP members have been invited to the White House and an invite was not passed along to Joe.

Coming off the recent Joe Means Jobs tour, Second District constituents overwhelmingly told Joe the top priority in Washington needs to be job creation. Perhaps a bipartisan job summit is what’s really needed with the President at this time.

Still, there are several issues that Republicans and Democrats can come together to accomplish.

For starters, Joe is a co-sponsor of HR 3400. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:h.r.03400:

This proposal gives patients greater health insurance choices while stopping the government from running the health system.

Think about it, car insurance ads are all over TV trying to get your business by advertising low costs and great service. Yet shopping around for health insurance across state lines is not allowed. HR 3400 would allow you to choose what type of health plan is best no matter where the company is located.

Health care should also not be crippled by frivolous lawsuits. Too often heath care decisions are being made to appease lawyers and bureaucrats instead of actually doing what’s best for the patient.

Small businesses should also be able to come together and form insurance buying pools.

Thankfully, the Obama Administration has finally listened to people’s demands for the process to be open, something that didn’t happen with the secret negotiations between House and Senate Democrats. But there are still problems. Four days before the so-called “bipartisan health care summit,” the White House released a new plan which is still packed with job-killing tax hikes and a laundry list of big-government mandates.

We will all quickly know whether this “bipartisan health care summit” focuses on real bipartisan solutions or whether it’ll turn out to just a big dog and pony show.
