In addition to the West Columbia Joe Means Jobs event, Joe spent the evening in Aiken, SC with constituents in a town hall meeting. Continuing his theme of accessibility and accountability, the event was open to the public and all media.
Joe took any and all questions from the crowd, touching on issues ranging from the fight against government run health care to Joe vowing to fight the closure of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.
Wilson told the crowd we can win on the issues. Joe said with big government comes limitations on freedom and he warned that the liberal Democrats are trying to significantly grow government.
Joe Means Jobs is an ongoing effort by Joe Wilson to get out and work alongside “working Joes.” He is focused on jobs and believes that lower taxes and greater tax credits for businesses are the real way to stimulate the economy.
ABC affiliate WJBF-TV’s Joy Howe covered the event and summarized it this way:
“JOE MEANS JOBS”: That’s what candidate Joe Wilson told voters in Aiken.
The US Congressman chatted with about 100 voters from the Cedar Creek precinct.
His main mission, he says, is to bring jobs back to the American people and to South Carolinians.
His district includes Allendale County, which has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation.
He’s also weighing in on what he thinks about President Obama’s healthcare plan…he says it’s not a “one size fits all” idea.
U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson: “I find people want health insurance reform, but they do not want a government take-over. And the more they found out about the government’s plan, the squeezing of Medicare, half a trillion dollars, the attack on senior citizens, the more people found out that what the President’s proposing will eliminate jobs.”
