Phone Lines Light Up With Joe In-Studio at WVOC-AM’s Keven Cohen Afternoon Drive Show
by Team Wilson on March 2, 2010Maintaining his theme of accessibility and accountability, Joe Wilson took to the WVOC airwaves for an hour Monday afternoon as an in-studio guest of Keven Cohen.
Keven first asked Joe about the situation with health care and the Democrats threat to pass the bill with just a 51 vote margin in the Senate and similar tactics in the House. Joe said that Nancy Pelosi and other Washington liberals are looking at “every way possible to bend the rules on getting health care rammed through.”
Joe told the WVOC listeners that reconciliation – a legislative procedural tactic – is rarely used on such large bills, and that “reconciliation is being abused by trying to pass a 2400-plus page health care bill.”
Once Keven asked for calls, the phones lit up and stayed that way. The show’s producer did not ask callers what questions they’d have, so Joe would have random questions from the audience.
From the Yucca Mountain situation to the massive debt the Washington liberals are piling up, Joe took on the tough topics. Joe applauded South Carolina’s Attorney General and the Aiken City Council for their planned lawsuits to force the continued development of Nevada’s Yucca Mountain as a place to store nuclear waste from South Carolina. Joe says that a significant percentage of power in South Carolina is generated by nuclear power and there’s never been a problem with nuclear waste. “This is intended to elect Harry Reid,” Joe said of the Obama’s administration’s plans for Yucca Mountain.
On the topic of health care, Joe was clear that Congress needs to concern itself with creating jobs and stop worrying about a government takeover of health care.
A caller applauded Joe’s position on taxes and the deficit and Joe made it clear that the rising federal debt is something that needs to be stopped now. “We’re 1.6 trillion dollars in the red and this is unacceptable,” Joe said.
Finally, Cohen thanked Joe for his accessibility and accountability. Never one to duck questions, Joe says going on talk radio is a great way to hear directly from his constituents and answer questions.
