Take Joe to Work Week in Columbia & Orangeburg
by Team Wilson on June 4, 2010A busy final day of Take Joe to Work week wrapped up with stops in Columbia and Orangeburg.
Joe took a trip back in time to the duties of his first-ever job which was delivering the Charleston Evening Post; let’s just say “quite a few years ago.” Back in the day, Joe used a bike to navigate the streets of the Port City to deliver the paper along King Street in downtown.
Today Joe rode along with local distributor Ted Neale. Joe also got a good pep talk from Publisher Mimi Maddock who encouraged him to work hard to reduce taxes for small businesses.
The family owned Columbia Star distrubutes around 15,000 newspapers each week. But Joe’s work for the day wasn’t done yet. He took a trip to Orangeburg to work at the very busy Henry’s Travel Plaza.
Joe worked the register and also pitched in at Henry’s newest feature, the Greyhound bus stop. 10 buses roll in and out of Henry’s each day, replacing the downtown Orangeburg stop. Henry’s is being used by Greyhound as a test project and such an arrangement could be seen more often throughout the country.
Joe greeted passengers and even helped load luggage onto the bus.
All week Joe has been on his “Take Joe to Work” tour. Website users of TakeJoetoWork.com have submitted jobs for Joe to try. Joe’s been working alongside “working Joes,” highlighting his plan to cut taxes for working families and give small businesses more tax deductions and credits.
