Waiting for the lame-duck session to pass critical tax relief for only some hardworking Americans is too little, too late.  We need to pass tax relief for all Americans this week before Congress adjourns.  Families and small business owners shouldn’t have to wait with apprehension to see if the largest tax increase in American history is coming their way.  I firmly believe that the anticipation over the future of these incoming tax increases is preventing small business owners from hiring and families from spending and investing.

Earlier this month, unemployment in my home state of South Carolina rose to 11%. And for 16 straight months, the national unemployment rate has been above nine percent, with nearly 20 million people without jobs.  This is clearly a time of urgency and the last thing hardworking families and small business owners need are more crippling tax hikes.

The Heritage Foundation has some staggering numbers about what the incoming tax increases would do for jobs in South Carolina. Heritage Foundation has found that the state of South Carolina would lose over 9,000 jobs a year and South Carolina’s families would lose $3,000 each in disposable income.  These frightening figures would be detrimental.

The math is simple: more taxes equal fewer jobs.  Congress must act this week to prevent the job-killing taxes that are headed for hardworking Americans and provide policies that give American families incentives to invest and create jobs.
