U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson will is expected Thursday to be endorsed by the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police, one of several endorsements his campaign expects him to receive over the coming days.

“Our relationship with Joe Wilson goes back to when he was serving in the State Senate,” said Jerry Wright, SC FOP Legislative Chairman in a release by the Wilson campaign. “Joe Wilson is a stand up guy, you can believe what he says. His door is always open to law enforcement and he’s one of the staunchest supporters of law enforcement in South Carolina.”

Wilson is in a re-election battle with Beaufort Democrat Rob Miller. The Miller-Wilson race is already the most expensive congressional race in state history, with the two raising a combined $5 million.

“I am honored to be working to protect those who protect us,” Wilson said. “As a father and grandfather, I understand how important public safety is. We must do everything to make sure our citizens are safe and give the men and women of law enforcement all the tools they need to keep us safe.”
