This Memorial Day, please take a moment out of your day to remember those who have sacrificed for our country and allowed us to have the freedom we celebrate today. Men and women have been putting their lives on the line for our safety for more than 230 years, when our nation was just an idea and not yet a reality.

Today, we recognize that the members of our nation’s military represent the best of America. Their defense of liberty and freedom has earned our gratitude, thanks and prayers. We should recognize that the spread of democracy across the globe is due in no small part to the extraordinary efforts of our men and women in uniform.

Americans from states and territories far and wide continue to fight and sacrifice for our country, and I’m committed to fighting for them as chairman of the Military Personnel Subcommittee of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. They give their best for us. We need to give our best for them.
