Wilson: Cut, cap and balance was the best solution
by Joe Wilson on July 28, 2011South Carolina’s Congressman Joe Wilson says the House is back to work early today in Washington.
The first votes of the day were scheduled for 1 p.m. —- when it is standard to have them scheduled for much later to give lawmakers time to get back in to the Hill.
Wilson says that is because the House leadership is calling for all hands on deck as leaders work out a debt deal.
His preferred plan for dealing with the debt limit was the “cut, cap and balance” bill that died in the Senate late last week. Wilson says he thinks the White House was working to divert attention from the bill: “We had the President come out and say that he agreed with the “Gang of Six” and they said, ‘Well, have you read the plan?” And he said, ‘No.’ That is utterly bizarre.
Wilson says the defeat disappointed the state’s delegation, since ”Congressman Duncan and myself and Mulvaney, Gowdy and Scott, we were all co-sponsors of that bill.”
The newest round of talks puts both a House and a Senate plan on the table. But Wilson is asking for a White House plan.
“And the President has never had a plan. In fact, his spokesman said he felt like he shouldn’t have a plan, he needs lead from the rear. That’s not right. We need a President with backbone, who understands that limited government is how we create jobs and opportunity,” criticizes Wilson.

Keep up the good work Joe and tell it like it is, THanks
This is a terrible package. Stand firm against it. We must cut 1st because promised cuts never happen.
Thank you, Senator Joe Wilson, for co-authoring Cut Cap and Balance. Cut Cap and Balance is the only plan presented which makes a dent in the budget.
The USA gov borrows 42 cents of every dollar it spends.
The day of giving borrowed money to the USA from other countries is coming. Sen Jim DeMint said on CSpan today. Until the DC spenders are voted out, expect taxpayers to be crabby and joyless. We are really fed up about all the money going to illegal immigrants also. Why won’t this congress discuss the free ride the illegal immigrants get. This is huge correlation with budget. I believe lack of discussion on welfare to illegals will grow now that a commission is set up and don’t understand how input from individual senators will be received.
I can’t understand why all the debate wasn’t on TV for public to see.
The GOP controls only 1/2 of 1 branch of government. I wrote 4 senators today naming less painful methods to cut budget. Stop sicuak services, education, welfare, food stamps, WIC and all social services to illegal immigrants.
I am extremely concerned how little was cut from the budget.
Thank you Senator Wilson for co-authoring Cut, Cap and Balance. We worked hard to get the message broadcast Cut Cap and Balance.
Thank you Congressman Wilson for standing firm against the overspending!!!!
Joe,
Please hang in there! Please do NOT let the “free-loaders” push their plans on us! We will back you up! You ARE doing the right thing. We CANNOT let what the marxists are trying to do, happen to America!
God bless & God speed Joe. You are in our prayers every day!
Joe,
Vote now to extend for as short a period as possible(months) and regroup . Then support major efforts of Cut, Cap, and Balance. Stop all parties efforts to primaeily blame other parties and get it together. Cut out pork and most entitlements even if they affect me. Combination of cut expenses first and increase revenues at the same time. Thanks for your inquiry and I would welcome the time to visir with you personally. Ronny Tanner
joe I agree with your stand on our spending. We are bankrupt and the liberals refuse to acknowledge the problem. If the cheating in our welfare programs alone could be halted we could balance the budget. kurt
